Lean
On Me Doberman Rescue (LOMDR) is a group of passionate,
dedicated volunteers committed to saving not only Doberman
Pinschers, but also other dogs in need. While we are primarily
a breed-specific rescue, we find it hard to say “no”
to the countless other dogs and puppies in need we hear
about literally every single day – most being rescued
hours before the time they were due to be euthanized. Our
adoptable dogs are fostered in a network of qualified foster
homes throughout Illinois.
People
who have not been owned by a Doberman in their lifetime
may wonder why we chose the name Lean On Me. One of our
volunteers had some friends over to do some “winter
cooking” on a Sunday afternoon. Two of the girls were
doing the cooking and the other friend was keeping them
company in the kitchen, when she said, “You guys have
to see this – turn around!” Both of the
resident rescue Dobermans were leaning on either side of
our friend as she was standing “with some effort”
in the kitchen. It was so quintessential – and just
what one should expect when living with a Doberman Pinscher
or multiple Dobes. They don’t call it the “Dober-lean”
for nothing! Months later as we were thinking of names
for our new rescue group, our friend from the kitchen said,
“Lean On Me – remember that day when we were
cooking in your kitchen?”
LOMDR
is licensed by the Illinois Department of Agriculture as
an approved animal shelter. We are a 501c3 Not for Profit
Organization and a corporation in the State of Illinois
comprised solely of volunteers. Our purpose is to educate
the public about rescue, to promote responsible dog ownership
and to reduce the abuse and neglect of Doberman Pinscher
dogs. In addition, our mission is to provide educational
services about training, altering, and the humane care of
dogs and to also promote good canine citizenship. LOMDR
is dedicated to saving abused, abandoned, surrendered and
homeless Dobermans. Our goal is to restore them to good
health, rehabilitate and place them into safe and loving,
permanent homes.
The
ability to continue to offer a safe haven for these deserving
animals is directly related to the funds we are able to
raise and the number of foster homes we have. All
donations are used toward the care of the dogs in our program
and to fuel LOMDR’s own fundraising efforts. Staying
focused on the goal is what keeps our rescue all about the
dogs. It is our honor to be able to give the dogs that come
through LOMDR a second chance and we consider our adoptive
families as extended LOMDR family.
