The name "Lean On Me Doberman Rescue" did not come about by accident. Certainly if you are a Doberman lover, you know all too well of the famous "Dober-Lean".   Imagine being sandwiched between 2 leaning Dobes!  In part, our name honors one of those two leaning Dobes and she was the inspiration behind “Leaners Legacy”.  As our beloved dogs make their journey to the Rainbow Bridge, we consider how to honor them.

Every once in awhile, we get lucky and know the true name of one of our orphans, but more often than not, dogs come to us with no identity, or a temporary identity. We take into careful consideration a name that would fit them best. We may choose names relating to where they came from, or perhaps a rescuer who helped along the way.  Some of us have running lists of names we love in our cars, ready at a moment's notice, for the next orphan we can adorn with a name.  

Majestic, dignified, fearless, beautiful, athletic, graceful and silly - are all words commonly used to describe Dobermans. We feel that their names should reflect those qualities.

It is our heartfelt wish, as we accept responsibility for the animals in our care, that we also pay tribute to those whom have come before them.  Passing down a name from generation to generation allows a name to live on and we feel it is a remarkable gesture to bestow on an orphan who is just getting their brand new life started with us.
